Hi again everyone,
Some of you may have used the Screen Filter app by Haxor. It's pretty good and I've tried it a few times over the years. I had it integrated into my flows via the "plugin" action and I was pretty happy with it except for one big issue... Sometimes there was a 10-15 second delay between the "plugin" action and the app reacting to it. It didn't inspire confidence.
I decided to actually try setting up one in Automagic and it really turned out well in a short amount of time. Interestingly, with the right settings, I was unable to tell the difference between this custom widget and the Screen Filter app in appearance.
The provided flow and custom widget is set up as a toggle situation that can be activated from another widget. The flow detects whether or not I'm in a dark room and adjusts accordingly. I've included a screenshot of the important parts. I set a global variable for part of my other widgets and to assist in the toggle effect.
The only truly necessary parts of the flow are the Show / Hide Custom Widget Overlay actions. You might take note that the only difference between the "...30" and "...60" actions is a change in the opacity setting.
I've tried a widget of 5 x 5 pixels stretched and 1920 x 1920 unstretched. I'm not sure I see a difference so I stuck with 1920 x 1920. My screen is 1080 x 1920 pixels and you would think that the width could be set to 1080, but then it doesn't cover the entire screen in landscape mode. Make adjustments to your screen size as needed both in the custom widget and in the actions.
Good luck!
