File association.

Post by lailoken » 09 Nov 2013 21:41

Since xml files are more generic, perhaps use a more specialized file extension? This will help when another app stole the file extension.

xml can still be kept, but exporting/importing will work better when there is no other app that interferes.

On my phone I already have the option of Tasker, Automagic or Total Commander.

Is there a style- or developmental reason to keep it xml?

There have been mail clients in the past that did not allow to save files when an unknown file extension was used and some file managers and text editors refused to open/edit such files.

A better solution might be to just add an "Import flows..." command under Menu > Manage. The current way to import flows is kind of hard to find by yourself without reading the FAQ. If you don't want to make a whole file browsing UI just for this feature, maybe you could make this a 4.4+ only feature, and use the new storage access framework.

Yup it took me a while to find it as well... and the current method may be a problem if I have another app set to be the primary application for .xml files (Like Tasker or Total Commander).

But at least I know now at least, but a Import menu item may not be the worst idea either.

I have added an import menu item in the next version: Menu->Manage->Import Flows/Widgets (available in the EAP forum).
