Is it possible to use automagic as a daydream? Maybe use a custom widget or something similar.

It's currently not possible in a proper way.
You could use a regular daydream like 'Clock' and trigger Daydream State to be notified when the daydream starts and then use action Show Custom Widget Overlay to show a widget above the daydream.
