from time to time (usually every few weeks) my phone mysteriously loses cell reception, and it may take hours until I'm aware of that. Turning airplane mode on and off again always fixes that issue.

I have been looking for a solution which notifies me if reception is lost for a specific time, but in vain - what really caught me by surprise. Isn't it possible to get this fundamental information from the phone?

A trigger kike that might also prove useful for people which frequently have to spend time in locations with a bad cellular coverage.

Check "Active Network Type" > "None" trigger

That one looks promising. I will have to wait until this issue occurs again to see if this will do the job, and report back.
