get car traffic information

I have to commute every day to work and in the mornings the freeway is often jammed.
On google maps I can see traffic information, but I'd like to automate it. I want that AM tells me whether it is better to use the freeway or to bypass it.

My idea is, to calculate the duration of the part of the route on the freeway regarding the traffic information (e.g. from google maps) and then to use speech output. But I can't find how to access google maps that way.
