Is there a way to unlock a non rooted Nexus 4 device with NFC trigger?

You can try to unlock your device with action Set Keyguard State: Off and/or action Set Lock PIN/Password.
Please note that the keyguard action does not work very well on some devices. You can also try alternative implementations of the same action by using a plugin like Secure Settings.

Have a feeling this isn't possible. I use my N7 with an NFC tag on my scooter, and it doesn't read the tag until i turn on the screen and unlock it (using standard ring lock, not code)
