notification volume and ringer mode

In JB 4.2 I had a flow which turned notification volume off when screen is on. It worked perfectly as it seemed that only ringer volume is tied to ringer modes. Now I have JB 4.3 and the flow doesn't work anymore as intended. It seems that also notification volume is tied to ringer mode as when I turn the notification volume of, it also changes ringer mode to vibrate.

Its there possible workaround so it wouldn't change ringer mode?

It's a 'feature' of some Android versions to link different types of audio volumes with each other. You usually also see this when you open Settings->Sound->Volumes and you only get three volume sliders.
There are tutorials on the web discussing how the ROMs needs to be modified to separate the volumes again or to link other volumes together. I think CyanogenMod has an option to change this directly in the user interface.

EDIT: Seems like Slim Bean has that same option as you told about CM. Now the flow works.
