Wifi Scn Results Available - Battery Usage Question

Hi,

Noob alert!

I'm currently evaluating Automagic. I have created a simple flow to check myself in and out of work using the Time Recording Pro plugin and using "Wifi Scan Results Available" as a trigger.

It seems to be working very well but I notice the flow turning red frequently as the trigger runs. I'm wondering whether this might be a bit of a battery drain. Should I be looking at using a different trigger to start with and then looking at the wifi scan results? I always leave wifi on and I haven't changed any of my phones settings - I always have plenty of battery with my current wifi settings so I'm not looking to change anything there - I'm just wondering if the additional overhead of Automagic checking and using the wifi scan results will be a hit on battery.

Any tips gratefully received...

I'd guess your device is being woken to run the flow every time the OS decides to do a scan. If you're actually connecting to the network(s) that you want to trigger on, why not use these as the trigger? They should only fire when the SSIDs in question are connected/disconnected rather than whenever the device decides to do another scan.

Depending on the granularity you required, you could also trigger on a time basis (every x 10's of minutes) and then use a condition further down the flow

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, I'm not connecting to the wifi network in question - just using it to identify that I'm at work.

I'll have a look at your other suggestion.

Cheers.

Looks as though the periodic timer might be be the best option. My phone is always scanning for wifi anyway so the list will always be up to date. The "WiFi Available" list doesn't depend on the "WiFi Scan Results Available" trigger having been run. So checking every 10 minutes should be better than the flow triggering every few seconds. The time recording app will round my checkin/checkout to the nearest 15 minutes anyway.

Still got a week of my trial period yet but looks like I'll be buying - the app seems to work very well. :)

Thanks for your help.

It's excellent, not least due the very high levels of support I've found from this community and especially its author, Martin
