Independent control of headphone and speaker media volume

Hello,
Thank you for reading; sorry if it's obvious; hope I hit the community standards; I'm a noob.
The use case is that I want my speaker media volume to be high when I'm at home, and muted when I am not. The problem is that I can't seem to control the speaker volume if I have headphones plugged in.
I was using connection to my home WiFi as a trigger to set the media volume (imperfect, but not a priority). This works ok, but the problem is I often arrive home with headphones in. The Automagic flow changes the headphone media volume in this case. The more frustrating effect is that it doesn't change the media volume to zero when I exit my home with headphones plugged in.
I considered using headphone connection / disconnection as the trigger instead, and then a condition on whether I could detect home WiFi to work out what to do to the respective volumes. I can't find a trigger for that, but I really think I just don't know enough yet.
Many thanks,
CC
