Static IP

Is there a away to set a device to a Static IP address, rather than allowing it to depend on DHCP?
What kind of usage? If it is per wifi SSID setting, android should handle it automatically already.
But if you want to change on the same wifi SSID for certain condition, ifconfig seems can work, but required root. I tried at mine, even with root, it doesn't change my wlan0 interface IP.
Other uglier method is to use Control UI to go to the wifi setting and set the IP manually.
