getting to know on which files an app is working

Good evening, folks.
I use an app for audiobooks, listen audiobook player.
I would like to know in which directory it's working, for I would like to record notes into the same directory as text files while listening to the current book.
I tried file observer as a trigger to get the current working path, with no joy for either it doesn't work or it gives too much results (when accessing the whole library).
So I wonder if there would be a way to get to know the current working directory or file/s the app is working.
Maybe with general broadcast? How do I know what an app is broadcasting, though?
Or like what?
Any hint would be appreciated.
Thank you very much.
