I'm trying to write an app that turns off my GPS when I'm at home, and turns it on when I leave home. My idea on how to do this is to have the GPS turn off when my wifi-turns on and turn off when my wifi turns off. As I have my wifi set up to turn on when I get home and to turn off when I leave home. However this may not work, as when I leave it uses GPS to detect when I leave the house.
Has anyone done anything similar that works?

It would work.
When you leave home your device is disconnected of your wifi and you can turn on GPS as it is pretty sure you are not at home. However you can set a condition to verify it. I mean, the moment to turn on GPS is when wifi disconnets.
