K-9 Mail Received Trigger Not Working

So it seems the issue was not really related to the error message in logcat.

I (accidentally) uninstalled K9, and then (intentionally) cleaned up all residues that I could find, and reinstalled it.
Now the new mail trigger is working.
Not sure whether my actions caused it or something else...
