Is there a way to reproduce this issue? It did not happen for me yet.
What device model and Android version are you using? Is your device/ROM modified in any way?
I can reproduce the issue on my smartphone by simply rebooting it and launching the app. On the second app launch the search icon appears.
It's Xiaomi Redmi 7 on Android 9 Pie.
No, I use MIUI stock firmware. All my actions were getting root-access through recovery, but the bug even appear when there are no root rights.

@igoryan94 : I don't use EAP version, can't test this. But sometimes this can be caused by the theme. Can you try to use default theme? Sometimes the button is still there, it is just invisible because the color messed up by the theme color.

I uninstalled the rap & installed the release. Then ticked the box to grant access.. Now Automagic can no longer access the SD card. Prior to EAP, no problem. I did not enter the path by hand.
Ideas?

Unfortunately, it's not because of the theme... I use both the app standard theme and MIUI stock one. When I touch the empty space where the icon normally should be, nothing happens.
Looks like a MIUI bug, and I would like to help with its workaround in Automagic. Strange, but it is the only app with such UI issue, all the others work absolutely normal.

@jassing : It can be the permission not set completely. Does your phone have feature such as privacy guard or similar thing? This may block the permission to access the storage. But it can also be the EAP's permission is broken, since it try to support Android 10 scoped storage permission.
@igoryan94 : Last time I get something like this on the search bar (the text washout, the search icon stays), it is because my phone's ROM color support. So I thought it might be similar case.
I know this is not the solution, but can you try to change your display density (or size) to smaller than current one? It is at the Settings - Display - Display Size (CMIIW). Maybe the UI sometimes not fit enough there and the search icon disappear.

It worked with (pre&) EAP version, but since I had to downgrade, I uninstalled it, then installed play-store version... No longer works... Not sure what else to do, as I didn't touch any special settings. It has all permissions available...
Thanks

@jassing: Please try to restart the device once then enable Debug Log and Write log to file in the logging settings of Automagic and try to enable external SD card access again. Please send the log to me afterwards in case it still does not work. Maybe I can identify the cause.
The way to access files has been completely rewritten in v1.38 since there will be changes in the way apps have to access files on Android 10 (as soon as the app is targeting Android 10) so it's very likely that there might have been a bug in v1.37 to access the secondary external storage.
What version of Android are you using?
Regards,
Martin

@Martin : I don't have microsd at my current phone. I plugged OTG flashdisk, and use the permission or any action with file browser (move files/ copy files), and I can't see my OTG flashdisk path. MiXplorer can see it properly, can copy/create/delete files. I tried to copy the path from MiXplorer, paste it to External SD Card access, still nothing. I am still using AM 1.37, Android Pie 9.0. I wonder if this is the same as jassing.
I am preparing to upgrade to android 10 tonight. It can be my current ROM problem. So I will troubleshoot it again after the upgrade.

@Martin -- I deleted all flows/widgets/vars to start with a clean slate. I enabled the log as requested, but there was absolutely nothing useful in the log after I tried to specify the sd card path in settings... (Not even a mention of the path, not a mention of sd card, no mention of an error)
I forgot to copy the log, i'll try to do that tonight; but there wasn't anything worthwhile in there.

I emailed you a video showing the log as well as a consistent crash... Too large to attach in the forum
