Can automagic grab androids default home settings? I had a brief look but couldnt see it

I don't know if it is possible. Maybe only launcher with automation support can do it, such as Lightning Launcher.

I knew it would be there somewhere in some crude form but i didnt think of using the overlays to check

@Lucy : if that is what you mean, then nova launcher also produce that. There is a thread where someone want to update the widget only when he/she scroll to that screen. This trigger UI event - announcement fit the best. I can't find the thread now, it is buried deep somewhere.

I found that out using my variable logger and logging for all UI events all day long. Not only launcher, chrome, alarm clock and several other app also made some announcement too when the apps do some special event.

Yes, you're right, I used it with Nova Launcher before.
Tempted to go back to that.

Ah... yes i know hunny.. ive had nova among many others that execute a similar pattern. I was originally looking for something w/o any other processes involved
