Do you try to uninstall and reboot then reinstall automagic. After install the root add-on you may have to reboot. If it's not working you should wait for the return of Martin (july 22) for more specific help.

What I find strange is that root commands like 'reboot' work just fine...

Hi,
Please activate the root functions in the settings of Automagic, then uninstall and reinstall Automagic and enable the root functions again and see if the root functions work.
If it does not work, then please execute one of the root actions and send the log to info@automagic4android.com (Menu->Manage->Log, Menu->Send Log).
Regards,
Martin

Thanks for your response.
After struggeling uninstalling the app I tried the 1.18.dev and it seems to work fine...
But I had to completely remove every link to the old app in order to install the dev version successfully (even the signature in the /data/system/packages.xml).

Thanks for the update.
There was a change in 1.18-dev that attempts to fix this issue, glad to see that it worked on your device
