Edit Flows by long pressing

Post by Ziggie » 28 Oct 2013 21:41

To edit, copy, delete or move flows to groups, it is necessary to tap on the triangle in the right corner. This is sometimes a little bit difficult to tap exactly this small icon and requires several attempts. It would be better to open the context menu by long pressing on the flow.

Btw: Automagic is one of the best pieces of software available for Android. Well done!

Opening the context menu by long pressing would go against the official Android design guidelines, which clearly states: "Avoid using long press for showing contextual menus."
Using long press to show context menus was very common in the early days of Android, but the guidelines changed about three years ago, and since then long press should mainly be used for selection, like in Gmail and many other apps.

Also, note that while the triangle icon is pretty small, the actual "hit area" is much bigger, about the size of a normal home screen icon, making it much easier to hit than it might seem by just looking at it.

Hi,

The next version of Automagic will use long pressing to select multiple flows in the flow list (Android 3+ only).
The contextual action bar with following actions will be shown when multiple flows are selected:
-Send Flows
-Move to Group
-Delete

Martin

Hi Martin,
Great to hear that multiple selection will be available in the next release. :-)
Can you please add few more actions like: Enable,Disable ?

Thanks.

May be not exact place to say that, but Martin, may be you could add "Global Variable" option straight into first level menu?
Now we have to open the menu, then click "Manage" and only after that - "Global Variable".

This thing is being used quite often and would be nice to make it easily available.

Thanks.

Could you change that triangle into the more obvious "tree vertical dots" menu icon?

Hello,
I write in this post because the request is similar.
When editing into a flow (not the list of the flows, but the blocks into the flow) I often move blocks by mistake, when instead I want only to pan the page. This happens when you have a complex flow, and the screen full of blocks very close one each other.
I know that long pressing a block is for multi-select blocks, but I think it's more useful to not move blocks by mistake.
If this can't be achieved, maybe you can add an option to freeze the flow (to be read-only like). You could add a padlock icon (for example in the bottom right corner) to switch between edit or freeze the blocks.

Thank you Martin for all your work, you're great!
