I realised last night that this new Lollipop "interruption" paradigm does not mute or silence your phone at all, so when you are lying next to your sleeping wife and unlock your phone, it will still make the chiming unlock sound, and so will ALL sounds still happen... it only silences OUTSIDE notifications etc... so if you want to really have a silent phone, you have to lower the volume of the phone down to vibrate only, and then set your interruptions to Priority or None.
What a complete PITA! I heard though that lollipop 5.1 WILL HAVE MUTE!!!!
thank the lord for small mercies

I've fiddled with Priority too. It's very confusing.
Interruption mode = None is problematic if you expect Alarms to still interrupt you - they won't
I use Priority interruptions mode set with NO exceptions. This works like mute for me.
Off topic, but what I find confusing is how the exceptions are set up for this mode. On a stock Nexus 4, I can set Events and Reminders, Calls or Messages
Events and Reminders: ANY Calendar event, I presume. What's classed as Reminders - some notifications?
Calls: This once seems obvious
Messages: Emails? SMSs? And from which apps?
