Re: HTTP POST request to turn off Telefunken Smart TV

Post by oliver7 » 20 Jul 2018 17:36

I HAVE FOUND A SIMPLE & SMART SOLUTION! :)

In tv settings you can choose the switch-on mode: either 'standby' or 'last setting' (<- choose the latter) - then, tv won't start in standby but switches on!
So, I only need a smart socket (€12,99/Amazon) to switch the tv on/off via google home! =))) [and I also save energy this way]..

P.S. I use the 'Smart Life' app to control sockets/lamps.

Yeah, something not everything can be solved using automagic. I still haven't managed to find how the yeelight app works, although it has a very clear documentation already. I simply use the plugin from the yeelight to control it.

Now, one question remains using a smart wifi socket: is it good or bad for a smart tv to get powered off hard/without switching to standby first [every day]?? // Is standby better for the tv? Well. Gonna risk it/2 yrs warranty.

I will deactivate automatic software-update, tho, to prevent to interrupt the procedure with hard-power off.

Oh, I almost forgot your reply. If the TV is smart one, then it should have operating system. Since it has OS, it usually use normal procedure to boot up and shutdown. If you just use hard power off everyday, it will skip shutdown procedure. It might pile up a lot of cache/trash it supposed to clean during normal shutdown. I don't know the detail of the OS, but it is better to shutdown it normally, not hard power off from electric plug.

Just another workaround, since you can turn it off normally using the remote app; you can use Automagic Control UI to control the app automagicaly. Then turn off the main power using the smart socket too. See my index at Control UI section.

Basically you simply open the app, using Control UI to navigate to the element which have the shutdown button and click that button. Exit from the app. The flow is not perfect, as you will have UI distraction, example you are playing game, and execute the flow using timer. The phone will open the remote app during your gameplay, finish its job and return back to your game; quite a distraction. So pick the trigger properly.

This sounds like I can create a macro/record my taps (like in Excel)?! That's a great hint, I don't know how to do it in Automagic yet but gonna try it soon.

A smart solution (=turn on via magic packet/WOL, turn off via macro recorded taps) is the preferred one..

But the tv seems to be okay with the hard way, too. There's no harddrive, it's all just ROM, I think it won't suffer. It can't lose data like a computer. When I switch it on it takes 1-2 secs to boot.

Kinda like that, but Control UI is more direct access to each element, not using arrow pad. You have to tried it out, it is one of the feature that makes me fall in love with Automagic at first time.
