issues w/ flows based on wifi connection and/or location?

Post by crackers8199 » 05 May 2017 19:08

are there any tips/tricks to get these working? i have set up a flow (or am trying to anyway) that will auto-connect me to my home vpn as soon as i leave my house, and disconnect the vpn as soon as i arrive home. the two ways i've tried doing this are by using the wifi connected/disconnected triggers, and by location. each one of them seems to have its own particular flaws...location seems like a much better way to do it, but even with the location radius set to 250m around my house, the flow somehow keeps running randomly when i'm still inside my house - often in the middle of the night. i don't want to increase the radius much more than that if i can avoid it, because i'd like to not have it jumping around when i'm just at a friends house down the street and it keeps thinking that i'm moving back and forth entering/exiting the circle. even the wifi flows seem to run at random times when i'm just using the phone and not actually disconnecting from wifi...

is there a better way to do this? am i missing something?

Hi,

Both the location and the WiFi connection issues could have the same cause. Maybe the WiFi network or the whole WiFi adapter of your device becomes unavailable/non-functional for some reason which could cause the location trigger to fall back to phone masts that are very inaccurate and could potentially detect you outside of the 250m radius.
You could try to change the method in the location trigger. Sometimes Modern works better then Classic but this also depends on device and your actual location.

Are you using any power saving features of the phone (especially system settings->WiFi->Cog wheel->Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep) or are you using any flows or other tools that turn WiFi on/off?
Could you please enable debug log in the preferences of Automagic and send the log to me after wifi disconnected for no apparent reason?

Regards,
Martin

it actually seems like it's the "disconnect when arriving home" flow that's going haywire. i have it using "wifi connected" right now with my home SSID, and it's running every few minutes. i do have keep wifi on during sleep set to "always."
